Tagore Prize

The awarding of this prize coincided with the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Tagore, an Indian poet and philosopher, campaigned for the modernization of his country and harmony between Eastern and Western culture.
