Goals
The Matsugaoka Bunko was established
- to collect and preserve written materials relating to Buddhism in general and Zen in particular,
- to make these materials available to the academic community and the public, and
- to thereby foster wider awareness of Buddhism.
Activities
In order to achieve these aims, the library is engaged in the following activities:
- Acquisition and storage of texts relating to Buddhism in general and Zen in particular (including works designated as Important Cultural Properties)
- Editing and publication of primary materials and scholarly research (The Annual Report of Researches of the Matsugaoka Bunko and the Matsugaoka Series, also published annually, are important communication conduits for the library.)
- Providing access to the collection to students of Buddhism, as well as the general public, in addition to holding open seminars and workshops
